Subject first: a small clothed wooden artist figure, standing upright. Its loose tunic is plain undyed linen, blank and unmarked. The arms rise slightly outward as if letting the wings go, and the head tips a little upward. Hands are smooth, rounded wooden forms: four fingers held together, a thumb lying along each palm, so exactly five digits are visible or anatomically accounted for. Wings: two broad wings of layered sketchbook paper sprout from the figure's back, both anchored in one tight, still-folded bundle of paper between the shoulder blades. The left wing is raised fully upward and outward. The right wing is only half open, showing wider and wider blank, unprinted sheets that fan from narrow folds at the body to broad open pages at the tips. Every wingtip stays well away from the frame edges.
