Perched sideways on a rough twig, a small beetle-like fly reads head, thorax and abdomen in one clean line. Its abdomen has become a miniature glass lantern, fused smoothly onto the thorax, tiny panes held in fine dark metal ribs, a single warm flame burning inside the glass - the light it gives off is its own body's light. Fine legs grip the bark, folded translucent wings lie back along the lantern's top edge, and a pair of short antennae crown the head.
